Review: Both are excellent big holtes in safe areas of the city. Canal St is the gateway to the French Quarter, Convention Center is for conventions and cruise ships. So depending on the reason for the visit you would choose the one closest to your desired spot. The Hilton is bigger and is closer to the casino too. If you prefer the historic area of the city the Marriott is closer by a few blocks but both have taxi stands out front making travel around easy. Hilton is attached to the River Walk Mall if a shopping mall is your thing. Magazine St. shopping is more eclectic and can be reached by taxi from either hotel. The bigger named restaurants are in the French Quarter that also has many small shops with unique gifts and art. If art galleries are important then the French Quarter is the place to go. I have stayed in both and it depends on what I am doing while there as to where I would stay.
